Dr. Aleš Svatoš

Svatoš obtained his Diploma (Chemistry) in 1981, and PhD (Chemistry) 1985 at the Institute of Chemical Technology, Prague. Between 1991-1993, he obtained a postdoctoral fellowship at Cornell University. Since 2002, he is the Group Leader of the Mass Spectrometry/Proteomics Research Group, Max-Planck-Institute for Chemical Ecology.

PD. Dr. Axel Mithöfer

Axel Mithöfer studied Biology in Osnabrück, Germany, and did his Diploma in 1988. He is associate professor at the Friedrich-Schiller University Jena. His main research interests lay in the field of plants’ interactions with other organisms, mainly herbivorous insects: the processes of signal perception, signal transduction, and induced plant defenses. Besides this, he is very interested in the carnivorous plants syndrome.

PD. Dr. Bernd Schneider

Schneider studied chemistry at the University of Halle/S., Germany (1973-1978) and did his doctoral studies at the same university (1978-1981). Since 1997, he is the head of the research group “Biosynthesis / NMR” at the Max-Planck-Institute for Chemical Ecology Jena (Germany), where he pursues his research interests focused in natural products chemistry and biosynthesis, chemical ecology, NMR spectroscopy.

Dr. Carlos Sialer

Estudió Biología. En el 2005 realizó un Máster en Biotecnología (CSIC-ALITER- Madrid). En 2011 fundó su empresa de biotecnología Asturbios Biotech SL en el que propone desarrollar biocidas de origen biotecnológico. Actualmente dirije el departamento de I+D+I de la compañía Ilender del sector farmaceútico veterinario y la Gerencia de innovación de Bioactiva, EIBT del sector Agropecuario.

Hader is the Head of Facilities for the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience (MPFI) located in Jupiter, Florida. Currently serves on the IFMA South Florida Chapter as Immediate Past President and is former Board member of the IFMA National Research and Development Council.

Dr. Florian Buettner

Studied at the universities of Heidelberg and Barcelona as well as Harvard Medical School and obtained MSc degrees in physics and medical physics. Following his PhD in radiotherapy physics at the Institute of Cancer Research in London, he moved to the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Health in Munich, where his research focussed on the development and application of probabilistic machine learning methods for analysing heterogeneous biological systems.

Dr. Hendrik Kersten

Dr Hendrik Kersten studied a double degree in “Physical Chemistry”, and “Food Chemistry & Chemistry” in the University of Wuppertal, Germany. He obtained his PhD degree, from the same university, in the field of Physical and Theoretical Chemistry. Part of this PhD thesis, which focused in development and characterization of ionization sources was done in collaboration with the University of British Columbia (Canada).

Dr. Hernan Burbano

Burbano studied veterinary medicine and biology (1996-2006) at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogotá. He worked on ancient genomics of humans and archaic hominins at the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany; and obtained a PhD in evolutionary genetics from the University of Leipzig (2012). Since 2014 leads the research group for Ancient Genomics and Evolution at the MPI for Developmental Biology.

Dr. Juan Carlos Gómez

Gómez cursó estudios de Medicina Humana en la Universidad Católica Santa María. Concluyó la especialidad de Patología Clínica en la Universidad Federico Villareal. Egresado de la maestría en Biología Molecular de la facultad de Ciencias Biológicas de la Universidad Mayor de San Marcos, cuenta con una segunda especialidad en Medicina de Enfermedades Infecciosas y Tropicales en la misma casa de estudios.

Dra. Marcia Gonzalez-Teuber

Gonzalez-Teuber obtained her Biology and Magister in Botany degrees at the University of Concepción, Chile. She obtained her doctoral degree at the Universität Duisburg Essen (Germany). After completing her doctoral studies, she obtained a postdoctoral position at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology (Jena, Germany).

Dr. Martin Kussmann

Kussmann has acquired research experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech start-up and nutritional industry. Martin holds a B.Sc. from the Univ. Aachen, Germany, and a M.Sc. from the Univ. Konstanz, Germany. He performed his doctoral research in Konstanz and at the University of California, San Francisco, USA.

Dr. Pablo M-L Sinues

Pablo is a chemist (University of Murcia, Spain) and holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (University Carlos III, Spain). Since 2017, Pablo holds a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position at the University of Basel. His research group is based at the University Children’s Hospital, where they are developing breath analysis methods to phenotype diseases and for therapeutic drug monitoring of pediatric patients.

Dr. Rudolf Grimm

Grimm received his Ph.D. in Biology from the Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich/Germany. After completing a post-doc time at the University of Freiburg/Germany and the Riken Institute in Tokyo/Japan he joined Hewlett-Packard as a senior life science application chemist in 1991.

Prof. Dra. Teresa Mosquera

Mosquera carried out undergraduate studies in biology, and graduate studies in genetics and plant breeding, obtaining her Doctoral degree from the National University of Colombia in collaboration with Max Planck Institute in Germany. At present, she holds a full Professorship at the National University of Colombia, Faculty of Agricultural Science, where she is the leader of scaling-up potato breeding projects aiming at improving the nutritional status of Colombian people.

Dr. Wilhelm Boland

Boland studied Chemistry at the Universities Münster and Cologne and received his Diploma and Ph.D. from the University of Cologne in 1975 and 1978, respectively. He was the 1st Simeone-Silverstein lecturer (1995) of the Internantional Society of Chemical Ecology and president of the society from 2008 to 2009.
